Greek Riot Police Officer Throws Flashbang Into Metro Station, Then Waves at Cameras

A Greek riot police officer was caught on video throwing a flashbang grenade into Omonia metro station without looking where it would land, then waving mockingly at journalists and bystanders filming him in real time.

The incident happened after a nationwide education rally had already wrapped up on October 21. Protesters had left Syntagma Square in an orderly fashion, marching back from Propylaea, when limited clashes broke out near Omonia between MAT riot units and young people throwing pieces of wooden pallets and other objects.

The officer tossed the device into the station entrance without checking whether anyone was standing in its path.

MAT units responded with tear gas and flashbang grenades during the skirmishes. The filmed moment shows the officer tossing the device into the station entrance without checking whether anyone was standing in its path.

The wave toward the cameras came while multiple journalists were visibly recording. The video was first reported by in.gr.
