The Greek Island Offering Free Stays, With One Condition
A Greek island is offering free accommodation to volunteers, but there is a catch: you have to love cats.
The animal welfare organization Syroscats on Syros is looking for volunteers aged 25 and over to help care for the island's cat population. Volunteers, whether individuals or couples, are expected to be fit, healthy, and independent, putting in around five hours a day, five days a week, for a minimum of one month.

No professional background is required, though anyone with veterinary assistant training or experience with feral cats gets extra points. The organization says it simply wants people who are reliable, willing to get their hands dirty, and able to show up on time.
Syros itself is a Cycladic island that draws a very different crowd from Mykonos. Its capital, Ermoupolis, looks more like an elegant 19th-century port city than a traditional fishing village, complete with grand squares, marble staircases, and a striking town hall that reflects the island's history as one of Greece's most important commercial hubs.
For those who want an authentic slice of everyday Greek life, Syros offers cafes and restaurants frequented by locals, usually at reasonable prices, away from the mass-tourism circuit.
Anyone interested in applying can reach out to Syroscats directly through their organization.
