The Greek-Built Drone Brain That Cuts Ties With Foreign Tech
A Greek defense tech company has built the country's first flight controller for military drones designed and manufactured entirely in Greece, marking a concrete step toward domestic defense production independence.
ResilienceTech developed the new flight controller around the STM32F722 ARM Cortex-M7 processor, which delivers high computing power at low energy consumption. The device integrates a low-power video transmission system and allows different inertial measurement units to be selected based on each mission's operational profile. The electronic speed controller is separated onto an independent board, improving electromagnetic performance and making future upgrades easier.
"Critical defense technologies can be designed, developed, and produced in Greece" — Giannis Doxaras, ResilienceTech
The company controls the full design, assembly, and quality control process in-house, allowing it to meet specific operational requirements from its clients without relying on foreign suppliers. That level of domestic control over a critical UAV subsystem is, according to ResilienceTech, what sets this development apart from simply importing or assembling foreign-designed components.
Giannis Doxaras of ResilienceTech said the goal was never just to build another flight controller. His team wanted to prove that critical defense technologies can be designed, developed, and produced in Greece, contributing to what he called a stronger European defense ecosystem and reducing Greece's dependence on outside technology suppliers.
The development carries broader significance as European nations push to shorten their defense supply chains following years of over-reliance on non-European components. A domestically produced UAV flight controller gives Greece both industrial and strategic flexibility, particularly as drone warfare continues to reshape modern military doctrine.
