Greek Tycoon’s Athens Stock Picks Hit €4.6 Billion
Giannis Stassinopoulos, one of Greece's most low-profile industrial billionaires, has quietly built a personal stake worth 4.6 billion euros across the listed companies of the Viohalco Group, with all three flagships sitting at all-time market highs on the Athens Stock Exchange.
Stassinopoulos controls 44.02% of Viohalco, the Belgian-listed Greek metals and manufacturing giant. That stake translates into 2.156 billion euros in Viohalco shares alone, with an additional 1.687 billion euros via Cenergy Holdings and 772 million euros through ELVALHALCOR. The total is even larger when shares held by other members of the Stassinopoulos family are factored in.
The group's three core listed companies posted combined net profits of 532.2 million euros in 2025. Their operations span aluminum, copper, cables, steel pipes, and real estate, spread across multiple international markets including an active expansion into the United States.
What makes this story striking is the consistency. The Viohalco group survived Greece's financial crisis in the 2010s, the 2020 pandemic, the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, and the US tariff wave of 2025 without losing its upward trajectory. According to Naftemporiki, the ongoing uncertainty in the Middle East has so far done nothing to slow either the group's financials or its share prices.
Stassinopoulos took the reins of the group from his father, the late Nikos Stassinopoulos, in the 1990s. He has rarely sought public attention, preferring to let the balance sheets do the talking.
The group's rise comes despite high energy costs and persistent geopolitical turbulence, factors that have weighed heavily on European industrial companies over the past four years.
