Condé Nast Readers Just Named This Greek Island #1 in Europe

Eight Greek islands landed on Condé Nast Traveller's Reader's Choice Awards list for the best islands in Europe, with one taking the top spot overall.

Naxos came in first place out of the entire European list, scoring 95.71 out of 100. It edged out Ibiza, which came in second with a 93.06, meaning the gap between Greece's best and Spain's most famous party island was nearly three full points.

Out of the 20 islands on the full European list, eight were Greek, more than any other single country.

Crete came in eighth with a 91.42, just one hundredth of a point behind Sicily. Corfu placed tenth with 90.95, Rhodes eleventh with 90.86, and Skiathos twelfth at 89.52. Mykonos came in fourteenth with 88.57, Folegandros seventeenth at 84.29, and Santorini eighteenth at 83.27.

The scores were determined entirely by reader votes, not editorial panels or sponsored rankings. Out of the 20 islands on the full European list, eight were Greek, more than any other single country.

Italy placed three islands on the list, Spain placed three as well, and Portugal placed two. No other country came close to Greece's eight placements.

Naxos scoring nearly 10 full points higher than Santorini on the same list says something about how reader preferences have shifted, with lesser-known Greek islands increasingly outranking the iconic ones.
